More Time to Relax When Attending Online School

Raiyana Shams is a grade 10 student at Winston Churchill High School in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She attended grade 9 and 10 classes in school and online during the COVID pandemic. Here are the experiences she shared with Palette under our Learning and Teaching During COVID series.

The struggles Raiyana faced during the online learning experience:

“Having motivation to do school at home was very hard, and doing homework/studying afterwards was even worse. While I finished all of my stuff on time, I did not enjoy any of it and know that if I learned the material in-person, I would’ve retained the information a lot better. Also, while I could work at my own pace and therefore had a lot of extra time, I never used that extra time for productivity because I was just so tired.”

In spite of the difficulty, there were some positives:

“I guess I enjoyed having more time to relax and not waking up early for the ride to school.”

Education related tech Raiyana used:

“Laptop, headphones, Teams”
