Hania Syed is a grade 10 student at EP Scarlet High School l in Calgary, Canada. She attended grade 9 and 10 classes in school and online during the COVID pandemic. Here are the experiences she shared with Palette under our Learning and Teaching During COVID series.

The hassle during this learning curve:

“I didn’t face many problems besides internet issues and school work since I was taking 4 classes and we would get assignments on an almost daily basis which obviously put a lot of stress on my but I managed to work through them all at my own pace and time”

Despite the change, there were still some educated related positives:

“We got more time in classes, giving us more opportunities to ask teachers for help and get more work done. I personally didn’t enjoy working at home as I prefer being around people, but it didn’t bother me much. I also liked the fact that we didn’t have to get up so early for our commutes.”

Tech Hania used for online school:

“Laptop, Google Meets and D2L Virtual Classroom”

There was also a major impact because of COVID-19 on Hania’s life:

“COVID definitely had a more negative impact on my mental and physical health but I’m currently in the process of getting the help I need so I don’t feel so alone. I really miss seeing my friends and family and going out but hopefully it’ll be worth the wait.”
