Celina Wong is a grade 11 student at Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Canada. She attended grade 10 and 11 classes online during the COVID pandemic. Here are the experiences she shared with Palette under our Learning and Teaching During COVID series.
Some hardships Celina encountered:
“During tests, I was unable to skip some questions or go back to some previous questions to double check them. I was given extra time to compensate for this, however, I would much rather be given less time and be able to skip questions and go back to them. There were also different math teachers for each lesson that I had to watch. My math teacher had to host extra classes to re-teach things in her way.”
Nevertheless, there were a few positives too:
“I got to sleep in, control my own work schedule, and I had more time.”
Devices she used for online school:
“Laptop, d2l”
There was a major impact on her life outside of school as well:
“I didn’t attend Kumon and karate and postponed my violin exam due to the lack of in-person lessons. I miss hanging out with my friends and I didn’t see my relatives as much. Overall, quarantine has been boring but at least it gave me time to binge many TV series and improve my art.”
