Wildfires are taking over!

Wildfires in British Columbia are causing a number of problems.

Wildfires is an unplanned fire in an area of combustible vegetation which basically means an area where there are a large number of plants that can burn in the air. In British Columbia’s (B.C) case around 240 fires are raging which means as per the definition many plant life is being destroyed along the way and the air isn’t looking too good.

So what caused these wildfires?

Well, wildfires can be caused in numerous ways such as open burning, use of engines or vehicles, dropping substances that burn (ex. cigarettes), dry climate, lightning, etc. A lot of B.C’s wildfires, around 40% are human but according to CBC News Canada these specific wildfires happening now can be due to lightning.

How can this affect your health?

Aside from the environmental tragedies that are obvious during wildfires, there is a change in air quality that is not looking too good for the people that live in B.C. The increased ozone levels due to the heatwave can become a problem with the increased smoke from the wildfires. This pollution poses a risk especially for the seniors and young children.

Wildfires are real and happening right now. Although the natural causes of wildfires can not be stopped at least it is up to humans to prevent the human caused wildfires since they really did not need to occur in the first place
